Ivo Touw

Ivo studied Biology at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands and graduated in 1981 with honors. He received his PhD training at the Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center and graduated with honors in 1986. His main research interest is Acute Myeloid Leukemia, in particular the cellular and genetic defects underlying this complex disease. In 1994, his group discovered that nonsense mutations in the receptor for the hematopoietic growth factor G-CSF, found in patients with severe congenital neutropenia, predispose for progression to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. To further study the functional consequences of these mutations, he received a PIONEER award from the NOW. Ivo Touw was a member of the Scientific Council of the Dutch Cancer Society NKB and of the ZonMW Program Committee. Currently, Ivo Touw is professor at the department of Hematology at the Erasmus University Medical Center. He is also chairman of the Educational Committee of the Postgraduate School in Molecular Medicine of the Erasmus University MC.
